How do I know if my symptoms are neuroplastic?

A few key indicators:

  • You've had symptoms for over 6 months (acute pain due to injuries would have healed by this point)

  • You have already tried one or more medical solutions

  • Symptoms come and go, move around, or appear in multiple locations

  • Symptoms started around a stressful time and/or get worse in times of stress

  • You identify as someone who is anxious, a worrier, or a people-pleaser

There are some medical doctors who are trained to diagnose neuroplastic pain. However, if 1) you have already visited a medical practitioner and ruled out serious conditions that require urgent intervention, and 2) you have already tried various treatments without success, it is generally safe to try a neural circuit approach.

I have had symptoms for many months or years, can this treatment still help me?

The amount of time you have been struggling with symptoms does not determine the amount of healing time. Participants in the Boulder Back Pain Study had on average 11 years of pain, and 66% were pain-free or nearly pain-free at the end of four weeks of intensive treatment. As long as you are open and committed to the process, it does not matter how long you have had symptoms.
